Miss and Jr. Miss Strassenfest contestants announced

missstrassenfestThe Jasper Miss Strassenfest Contest will be held Saturday, July 30 at 7 p.m. in conjunction with the Jr. Miss Strassenfest Pageant and the Little Miss and Little Mister Strassenfest Pageants at Redemption Christian Church located at 1450 Energy Drive (formerly Christian Church of Jasper). This new venue will provide over 1,000 seats for the public to attend.

Tickets will be available at the door for $5.

This year, five contestants will be vying for the title of Miss Strassenfest.

Scholarships will be awarded to the Miss and first runner-up in the amounts of $1000 and $500, respectively. A second runner-up, Miss Congeniality, and Miss Photogenic will also be awarded.

The five contestants include:

Brooke Epple is the daughter of Kimberly and Kenneth Epple. She attends Indiana University Southeast majoring in neonatal nursing. She volunteered at the Dubois County Humane Society.

Vanessa Hickman is the daughter of Becky Hickman and Steve Hickman. She attends the University of Indianapolis majoring in business management and administration with a minor in communications. She volunteered at Freedom Reins Therapeutic Riding Center.

The Jasper Jr. Miss Strassenfest Contest will be held Saturday, July 30 at 7 p.m. in conjunction with the Miss Strassenfest Pageant and the Little Miss and Little Mister Strassenfest Pageants.

Young ladies who currently live in the Greater Jasper School District and will be entering grades 7 or 8 for the 2016/2017 school year were eligible to participate. This year, six contestants will be vying for the Jr. Miss Strassenfest title.

Scholarships will be awarded to the Jr. Miss and first runner-up in the amounts of $250 and $125, respectively.

The mission of the Jr. Miss Strassenfest Scholarship Program is to encourage and develop the life skills of young women through community service involvement, public speaking opportunities, interview skills and personal development.

Contestants will participate in four categories: scholastics, an interview with judges, a community service project and on-stage presentation. Each contestant volunteered at least four hours and in total contributed 36 hours to a number of worth-while causes.

The six contestants are:
