Norbert J. Schroering, 85, of Jasper passed away at 12:14 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2019, at his home.

He was born in Celestine, Indiana on November 22, 1933 to Martin and Frances (Seger) Schroering. He married Rita Eckert on April 12, 1958 in St. Celestine Catholic Church.
Norbert served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955 at Fort Benning, Ga. He had worked for Jasper Cabinet for 20 years and later worked for Brosmer Lumber Company for several years.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper and their Men’s Sodality, the American Legion Post #147, the Dubois County Museum and the Celestine Community Club.
He enjoyed horse racing, going to the race tracks, fishing, hunting, and playing cards. He especially enjoyed telling jokes with family and friends and going to Headquarters in the morning.
Surviving are his wife, Rita Schroering of Jasper; two daughters, Melissa Gardner of Evansville and Melanie Lottes (Gregg) of Loogootee; three sons, Mark Schroering (Carol) of Jasper, Martin Schroering of Chicago, and Matthew Schroering (Valery) of Riverview, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Elfrieda Merkley of Ireland, Ind., Alice C. Schroering of Walnut Creek, Calif., Rosemary Rivers (Roger) of Clayton Calif., and Lucy Alcorn (Tom) of New Smyrna, Fla.; sister-in-law, Anita Schroering of Evansville; three brothers, Henry Schroering (Virlee) of Jasper, Ambrose “Ray” (Jan) Schroering of Pleasant Valley, Mos., and Martin W. Schroering (Janet) of Charlotte, N.C.
Preceding him in death was one son-in-law, Danny Gardner, two brothers, Jerome and Edward T. Schroering, one sister Florence Mary who died infancy, and two half-brothers, Cornelius Schroering and Sylvester Humbert.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Norbert J. Schroering will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, with entombment to follow in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. The American Legion Post #147 will conduct Military Grave Side Rites.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and one hour before services at church on Wednesday. A rosary will be held at 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday by members of Holy Family Parish Men’s Sodality and Parish.
