Norbert “Nip” A. Wehr, 85, Ireland

Norbert “Nip” A. Wehr, 85, of Ireland, passed away at 4:10 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper, Indiana.

He was born in Ireland, Indiana, on July 23, 1933, to Edward and Helen (Renner) Wehr. He married Gloria Hochgesang on February 23, 1954, in Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana.

He worked for the state highway, U.S. railway, and then retired from Wehr’s Welding, which he owned for 37 years. He was also a farmer. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana, and the International Bluegrass Association. He enjoyed playing the fiddle and played at many dances, weddings, and nursing homes. He won many contests and was the Indiana State Fiddling Champion. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Wehr of Ireland; one daughter, Karen (Bryan) Trimborn of Evansville; four sons, Marvin (Aurdrey) Wehr of Ireland, Ernest (Brenda) Wehr of Ireland, Stanley (Wilma) Wehr of Ireland, and John Wehr of Ireland; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eileen (Charles) Vogler of Ireland and Viola Howard of Bloomington; one brother, Herman Wehr of Evansville.

Preceding him in death are one son, Richard Wehr, one daughter-in-law, Theresa Wehr, and one sister, Helene Matthews. 

A Mass of Christian Burial for Norbert “Nip” A. Wehr will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2019, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held noon until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2019, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, Indiana.
