Off road vehicle crash seriously injures Petersburg man

A Petersburg man and his Huntingburg passenger were taken by helicopter to the hospital after they were thrown from an off-road vehicle when it crashed Monday evening.

Terry Jones, 56, was operating a 2012 Honda TRX420 on the 2600 block of E. 475 North in Pike County when the ORV allegedly struck a dog at about 8:19 p.m. Jones lost control of the vehicle and it rolled over throwing Jones and his passenger, Candace Parks, 39, of Huntingburg, from the vehicle.

Jones and Parks were both transported by helicopter to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. Jones sustained serious bodily injuries and remains in critical condition. Parks was treated and released from the hospital.

No safety equipment was used in the incident. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor.

Indiana Conservation Officers recommend always wearing a helmet when operating or riding an ORV, and always following manufacturer recommendations for operation.

Responding agencies include the Pike County Sheriff’s Department, Petersburg Police Department, Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department, Pike County EMS, Air Evac, and Indiana Conservation Officers.
