Two in critical condition after Holland Junction collision

Two men are in critical condition after a collision at Holland Junction Wednesday evening.

Carl Mitchell, 48, of Ft. Branch, was eastbound on State Road 64 in a 1996 Ford Probe at about 7:08 p.m. when the accident occurred. As Carl was passing the intersection with State Road 161, a 2009 Pontiac G8 driven by 17-year-old Jayden Montgomery of S. State Road 161, Holland, attempted to turn south on State Road 161 and ran into the driver’s side of Mitchell’s Probe.

The collision caused the Probe to continue southwest off the roadway down a steep embankment before stopping near a line of trees off the south side of State Road 64.

The Pontiac came to rest in the middle of the State Road 64 and State Road 161 intersection.

Mitchell and a passenger, Tony Burden Jr. of Evansville, were taken to Memorial Hospital by ambulance. Mitchell was transferred to the University of Louisville hospital by helicopter and is currently listed in critical condition. Burden was flown by helicopter to St Mary’s in Evansville because of the extent of his injuries and is currently listed as stable but critical condition.

Montgomery refused medical assistance at the scene.

Both vehicles were totalled in the accident.

The Holland Junction was closed for about an hour and ten minutes as crews worked the scene.

The accident is still currently under investigation and anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact Deputy Clint Gogel with the Dubois Count Sheriff Department at 812-482-3522.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by Huntingburg First Responder, Memorial Hospital Ambulance Service, and Kars Wrecker.
