Pine Ridge Elementary students continue tradition of donating toys from school gift exchange to “Toys for Tots”

As is customary for this time of year, the students of Pine Ridge Elementary School conduct a gift exchange, but for the last several years the students of Susan Brier’s third grade class have taken it a step further.

Several years ago, when Mrs. Brier’s class heard about the “Toys for Tots” program sponsored by the local Marine Corps League, they decided they wanted to help. They took the toys they received through the gift exchange and donated them to Southern Indiana Leatherneck Detachment of the Marine Corps League.

This has now become an annual event and this year 15 students participated by giving their gifts to the Toys for Tots program.

The Marine Corps League, along with the US Marine Reserve nationwide, provides toys for children that may not otherwise get a gift for Christmas.

The Marines of The Southern Indiana Leathernecks want to recognize the Third Grade class and faculty of Pine Ridge Elementary for not only their generosity but for setting a positive example about the true meaning of Christmas and the rewards that are experienced by helping others.

Toys that are collected will go to disadvantaged children in the 6 counties surrounding and including Dubois County.
