Preliminary investigation of Vincennes University student death indicates no foul play

Vincennes — Preliminary findings into the Saturday night death of a Vincennes University student indicate there was no foul play involved.

University student Malcom Jamar Stalling, 22, South Bend, was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital Saturday night after being transported there from an off-campus apartment house at 610 N. Second Street in Vincennes at approximately 7 p.m.

According to an initial crime scene report issued by the Vincennes Police Department Sunday at 3:30 a.m., at about 6:45 p.m. Saturday night,  Stalling was found unresponsive by his returning roommate near the front door of his residence.

Preliminary findings of a medical examination support a previous report of the Vincennes City Police Department that foul play did not play a role in the death the student. The autopsy was conducted Sunday afternoon.

The investigation continues pending a final report by the medical examiner and physical evidence examination by the Indiana State Police. Authorities consider this an isolated incident.

Vincennes City Police investigators were assisted by the Vincennes University Police Department, and the Indiana State Police Criminal Investigation Division, and crime scene technicians.

According to VU officials, counseling services are being made available to the University community through the VU Counseling Services Office.
