Pride in the Park 2022

The third Pride in the Park was held Friday evening at Jaycee Park in Jasper. Organizers were surprised by the size of the crowd. Leias were handed out to attendees to the pool party.

Jaycee Park was filled with hundreds of adults and children celebrating Pride in the Park Friday evening.

Music, food trucks, free swimming, volleyball, cornhole, a photo booth, dancing and more contributed to the festive atmosphere of the fun festival in its third year. Dubois County’s many emotional and mental health providers and support groups were also on hand with booths providing information about their services as well.

The Jaycee Park/Army National Guard parking lot was full of cars before the event’s official opening. By the time things were in full swing, cars lined 15th and Bartley streets.

Here are a few photos of the event.

Jen Whittier, a member of Louisville Turners Circus, performed at the festival. The group provided aerial stunts as well as gymnastics for the crowd’s enjoyment.
Bryan Goeppner and his wife, Lis, with Sweet Geek Studio provided buttons for the attendees to the park. Patrons could pick from premade buttons or decorate their own and Bryan would make the button while they waited. Many chose to decorate their own with their preferred pronouns.
Gracie Frederick and Jack Gauker, both of Jasper, posed as event volunteers took photos for them.
Houry Kandoyan (left) and Stephanie Mercedes embraced as they danced Friday evening. The couple is traveling to St. Louis with a friend, Lisa Marie Thalhammer, and stopped in to attend the Jasper Pride in the Park event. Lisa Marie is familiar with Dubois County, she created the Ferdinand the Bull mural in Ferdinand in 2016.
Desha Little of Tell City laughed after faceplanting in the volleyball net Friday evening. She and her sister, Nakaia Little and several friends from south Spencer and Perry counties attended the event in Jasper.
Blake Garland, Washington, took a turn at the candy cannon. Attendees could throw balls at a target attached to a lever that triggered the cannon showering them with candy.
Whitney Recker (Left) and Monica Lorey played a game of Minecraft Uno in the Jaycee Park jungle gym with their friends, Grace Cassidy, Anna Uebelhor and Olivia Edmond.
Paisley Breslin, 6, of Jasper, danced during the glow party held in one of the shelter houses at Jaycee Park.

  1. This was a fun event! Good food, good music, and amazing performers. It’s just a shame the drag show got cancelled.
