Robert L. Blackgrave, 85, Jasper, passed away at 1:20 p.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2016, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper.
Robert was born in Jasper on June 14, 1931, to Hilbert and Catherine (Dittmer) Blackgrave. He married Norma Bender on September 2, 1978 in St. Marie, Illinois.
Bob retired as a supervisor for Triangle Pacific. He was U.S. Air Force veteran who served during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post #147. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Norma B. Blackgrave of Jasper; two daughters, Ann Berg and husband Jeff of Jasper and Jan McGee and husband Butch of Mt. Carmel, Ill.; seven sons, Ron Blackgrave of Indianapolis, Greg Blackgrave and wife Kristie of Loogootee, Mark Blackgrave of Jasper, Kevin Blackgrave and wife Melissa of Jasper, Jon Blackgrave of Jasper, Steve Bender and fiancé Elena Gillespie of Indianapolis and Mark Bender and wife Debbie of Amherst, N.J.; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; three sisters, Mary Freyberger and husband Dan of Dubois, Carol Durst of Petersburg and Nelda Mendel and husband Ron of Jasper; one brother, Gus Blackgrave of Jasper.
Preceding him in death were two sisters, Ruth Kern and Bettye Howard, and three brothers, Hilbert Jr., Charles, and William Blackgrave.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Robert L. Blackgrave will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with entombment to follow in the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper. The American Legion Post #147 will conduct military gravesite rights.
Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. services at the church on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or to a favorite charity.
