Sister Brenda Englert, 93

Sister Brenda Englert, 93, of Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand, died at 1:40 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2015, at the monastery’s Hildegard Health Center.
Sister Brenda was born November 4, 1921 in St. Anthony, Indiana, the fifth of 6 children of Jacob and Sarah (Jahn) Englert. She entered the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand in 1952 and made her profession of monastic vows in 1954.
She is survived by a brother, Bernard of Jasper; nieces and nephews; and members of her religious community. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Harold; and three sisters, Hilda Staab Whaley, Aurelia Reteneller, and Bernadette Englert.
Sister Brenda was a teacher at Haubstadt (St. James), Mount Vernon, Rockport, St. Anthony, and St. Joseph in Evansville. She also taught religious education at Vincennes (St. Thomas) and at Dale (St. Joseph Parish) and has worked in various support services within the monastery. She most recently served in prayer ministry.
Visitation will be at the monastery on Monday, June 8, from 3 to 7 p.m. EDT, and on Tuesday, June 9, from 2 to 4:15 p.m.A wake service will be on Monday at 7 p.m. The funeral Mass will be on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in the monastery church followed by burial in the monastery cemetery.
