Sister Christine Kempf, 85, Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand
Sister Christine Kempf, 85, of Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand, Indiana, died at 8:09 a.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at Memorial Hospital in Jasper.

She entered the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand in 1955 and made her profession of monastic vows in 1957. She celebrated the 60th anniversary of her profession in 2017.
She is survived by her sister, Alice Kalb; nieces and nephews; and members of her religious community. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Matilda Dinwiddie, Frieda Kunz, and Genevieve “Jenny” Otto; and her brothers, Emil and Sylvester.
Sister Christine taught at St. Joseph School, Holy Rosary School, and Holy Spirit School, all in Evansville; at Holy Cross School in Fort Branch, and at St. Francis Xavier School in Poseyville. She was principal at St. Theresa School in Evansville and at St. Matthew School in Mount Vernon. After returning to the Ferdinand, she served as monastery coordinator. She most recently served as director of tourism.
Visitation will be at the monastery on Sunday, May 20, from 2 to 6:45 p.m. EDT and on Monday, May 21, from 2 to 4:15 p.m. A wake service will be held on Sunday at 7 p.m. The funeral Mass will be on Monday at 4:30 p.m. in the monastery church followed by burial in the monastery cemetery.
