Sister Michelle Willet, 60

Sister Michelle Willet, 60, of the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand, died at 6:05 a.m. on Friday, August 2, 2013, in the monastery’s Hildegard Health Center.
A native of Uniontown, Kentucky, Sister Michelle was born June 26, 1953, the oldest of six children born to Henry and Dorothy (Askins) Willett. She entered the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand in 1981 and made her profession of monastic vows in 1983.
She is survived by one sister, Jennifer Willett, of Buffalo, New York; three brothers, Christopher, Gregory, and Theodore, all of Evansville; and members of her religious community. She was preceded in death by her parents and her twin brother, Michael.
Sister Michelle had been a teacher’s aide at SIRS pre-school in Jasper, outreach worker at Family Neighborhood Clinic in Santa Claus, and a supervisor at Martin Community House in Siberia. She was a proctor and transportation assistant at Marian Heights Academy in Ferdinand and a teacher at St. Vincent Day Care Center in Evansville. At the monastery, she did supportive services and served as chauffeur for the senior sisters. Most recently she served in prayer ministry and a card-writing ministry that she started in 2010.
Visitation will be at the monastery on Sunday, August 4, from 2-6:45 p.m. EDT and on Monday, August 5, 2-4:30 p.m. EDT. A wake service will be Sunday at 7 p.m. EDT. The funeral Mass will be on Monday, August 5, at 4:30 p.m. EDT in the monastery church. Burial will follow at a later date.
