Sisters of St. Benedict to host renowned harpist Gianetta Baril in concert

On Saturday, December 3, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. EST, the Sisters of St. Benedict will host a concert with Canadian harpist Gianetta Baril at Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand.

The concert will be free and open to the public, with a free-will offering for those who want to give their support.

Baril is one of the finest Canadian harpists of her generation, whose playing is renowned for its grace and passion. She was Canada’s representative at the World Harp Congresses in Vienna and Paris, and performed as a soloist for the Queen, Prince Charles and the late Lady Diana. Her recitals have been broadcast on CBC Radio and TV, and on Radio France.

Her recording of the Alberto Ginastera and Oskar Morawetz Harp Concerti with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra won international acclaim, as well as a Juno Award for the Best Recording of a Canadian work.

The Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand are grateful to the Verkamp family for establishing the St. Mechtilde of Hackeborn Sacred Music Series Endowment in honor of Sister Mary Aquin and Sister Mary Ann Verkamp. Its purpose is to provide sacred music concerts and speakers for the monastic community and the public. Funds from the concert series have made this performance possible.
