The Dubois County Soil and Water Conservation District’s (SWCD) Annual Meeting will be on Tuesday, February 14, at 6:30 p.m. EST, in the Thyen-Clark Cultural Center Atrium, in Jasper.
Doors open at 6:00 p.m., with dinner to be served at 6:30. Tickets for the meal are $10 and can be purchased in advance at the SWCD office at 1486 Executive Blvd, in Jasper. Reservations are requested by February 3. In the event of inclement weather, the snow date is February 16.
The guest speaker for the meeting is Kent Yeager, president of the Indiana Barn Foundation. Throughout his career, Yeager traveled extensively across rural Indiana. While doing so, the alarming rate of decline in the number of Indiana’s historic barns caught his attention. In response, he became a founding member of the Indiana Barn Foundation and works with others to maintain and preserve historic barns. Yeager will be speaking about the barns in the Dubois County area.
Conservation Awards will be presented at the meeting, as well as the election of a SWCD Supervisor. Brenda Sermersheim is on the ballot for an additional three-year term. SWCD Supervisors are elected officials of the Indiana government, responsible for the wise management of Indiana’s soil and water resources, and the environment in which we live. Any qualified person interested in serving a three-year term may be nominated to be on the ballot. Following the election, the SWCD will share its 2022 activities and accomplishments and the 2022 financial report.
Contact the SWCD office at 812-482-1171 ext. 3 for more information about serving as supervisor, or for a reservation for the dinner. All Dubois County residents are encouraged to attend. The sponsors for the meeting are Beck’s Hybrids, Freedom Bank, German American Bank, Old National Bank, and Springs Valley Bank & Trust Co.
The SWCD will hold a short reorganization meeting immediately following the annual meeting.
