The Travel Agent ribbon cutting was held Thursday, May 1. Mark Moorehead (holding the traditional framed $2 bill from the Jasper Chamber of Commerce) and his wife Wanda (leaning over to the left of Mayor Terry Seitz) purchased Style Travel in Huntingburg and moved the office to Jasper.

The Travel Agent celebrated the opening of its new Jasper location with a ribbon cutting Thursday afternoon.

The Carmel-based company purchased Style Travel from Hank Menke, CEO of OFS Brands, last August. According to Mark Moorehead, the owner of The Travel Agent, he decided to move to the 206 West Eighth Street, Jasper, location to provide better service for local customers and corporate clients.

The new location is managed by Angela Mathies, a 16-year veteran in the travel industry who formerly worked for Style Travel in Huntingburg.

According to Moorehead, “you can’t Google experience”.  With that in mind, the company’s goal is to provide travel agents with special knowledge of specific areas people wish to travel. For example, Mathies is considered a specialist in the Caribbean and Mexico and plans many honeymoons and anniversary travels.  She has also spent time in Italy.

Besides the expertise offered by their many travel agents, The Travel Agent is a member of Virtuoso, a luxury travel group that provides travelers with certain privileges. “Nobody wants to stand in line at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome,” Moorehead said. “The line is four blocks long and we can get our customers in without waiting in that line.”

The new office is open 8 a.m to 5 p.m Mondays through Fridays and can be reached at 812.556.5185 (office), 812.630.9369 (cell) and 812.556.5185 (fax). She can be reache by email at angela.mathies@thetravelagentinc.com.
