The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Karma and a tip from the public helped deputies locate methamphetamine packaged for sale at a local hotel.
According to deputies, the Jasper Police Department received a tip about possible drug activities at about 10:30 Friday and requested assistance from the sheriff’s department K-9.
During the investigation later that afternoon, K-9 Karma alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics on the door of a hotel room inside the Super 8, located at 75 Indiana St., Jasper.
Officers, with the assistance of the Dubois County Prosecutors Office, sought and were granted a search warrant for the hotel room in the Super 8. They located a vehicle registered to the owner of the subject who rented the room at the hotel and during a search of the vehicle, found several drug items including 15.8 grams of suspected methamphetamine packaged for delivery and less than 30 grams of suspected marijuana as well as several items of drug paraphernalia
Officers arrested 26-year-old Bryce Englert, of E. 5th Ave., Huntingburg, and charged him with a Level 2 felony count of dealing methamphetamine (enhanced due to weight), a Level 4 felony count of possession of methamphetamine over 10 grams (also enhanced due to weight), a Level 6 felony count of maintaining a common nuisance, a Class B misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana under 30 grams and a Class C misdemeanor count of possession of paraphernalia.
Englert was taken into custody and booked into the Dubois County Security Center and is currently being held on a $20,000 cash/$40,000 surety bond.
The sheriff’s department thanked the public for the anonymous tip and added that the public’s help is necessary for officers to combat drug use in our area.
