Viola Steltenpohl, 90

Viola Steltenpohl, age 90 of Jasper, passed away at 12:06 p.m., Wednesday (March 28, 2012) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.
She was born in Ireland on September 22, 1921 to Frank X. and Carolyn (Schmidt) Sermersheim. She married Bernard S. Steltenpohl on May 25, 1946 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. He preceded her in death on March 15, 1974.
Viola worked at the Jasper Chair Company for 20 years, and she worked at the Jasper Glove Factory. She was also a cook at Holy Family Catholic School.
Viola was a 2001 International Year of the Volunteer -Named Volunteer. She was a volunteer at Memorial Hospital for ten years, and she volunteered for the Red Cross, the Blood Bank, and at Northwood Good Samaritan. She was also a Carnation volunteer.
She was a Charter member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, member of the Jasper D of I for over 50 years, Holy Family Blessed Sodality, the Memorial Hospital Auxillary, an RSVP member, and a life member of the VFW Auxillary.
She was an avid card player, and especially enjoyed playing Bridge, as she was a member of the Bridge Club. She also enjoyed quilting and word searches.

Preceding her in death besides her husband are one great grandson, Cameron Snyder, and three brothers, Wilfred “Betts”, Alphonse J. “Allie”, and Cyril “Sam” Sermersheim.
Funeral services for Viola Steltenpohl will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (March 31, 2012) at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., on Friday (March 30, 2012) at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. There will be a VFW Auxillary memorial service at 6:00 p.m.
