Vogler seeking re-election for Greater Jasper Consolidated School District 3 seat

Bernie Vogler is seeking re-election for a District 3 seat on the Greater Jasper Consolidated School Board.

“I would like to see through the current and planned building projects,” said Vogler. “I want to ensure our tax rate remains steady, as it has for many years. My goal is to keep our facilities in excellent condition. With the cooperation of my fellow board members and school administrators, we are doing just that. We are trying to get as much use out of our facilities as possible.”

Vogler, board president since 2019 and a lifelong Jasper resident, is a 24-year member of the board. He was recently named to the Exemplary Governance Honor Roll of the Indiana School Board Association, the highest level a board member can earn by attending continuous improvement and professional development activities. Jasper High School honored Vogler last spring as an Alumni of Distinction because of his many community volunteer efforts.

Vogler says his approach as a school board member is to bring common sense, fiscal conservatism, and a strong work ethic. “I try to represent the values of every student, teacher, administrator, bus driver, taxpayer, and staff member,” notes Vogler. “I am always willing to hear what others have to say and do my best to show favoritism to no one. The most important part of a board member’s job is to hire and evaluate our superintendent. We don’t interfere with daily operations and strive to keep the tax rate level.”

Vogler has been part of Jasper schools achieving fiscal stability and academic success, with an 11-13% cash balance in the Education Fund, and being an A-rated district, with a 95% graduation rate, expanded course offerings, and additional career counseling. Various area organizations have been partnered with to improve student services and safety, and teacher salaries have increased nine out of the past ten years.

“Through everything I’ve ever accomplished, I’ve always had excellent associates and partners,” said Vogler.

Vogler was a retail business owner for 36 years. He’s in his 53rd year as a bus driver for the Jasper schools, noting it’s one of the most rewarding positions he’s ever had.

Bernie and his wife, Donna, are the parents of four children: Annette (Durcholz), Chris, Audrey (Seger), and Andy, and they have 15 grandchildren.
