Winslow 14-year-old killed in ATV accident

Indiana Conservation Officers are reporting that a 14-year-old boy has died as a result of injuries from an ATV accident.

Kaleb S. Poehlein (14) of Winslow lost control of his ATV and hit a small ditch. His ATV went air born, hit a tree and landed upside down.

Poehlein had just passed another ATV operated by Colton L. Wade, 15, of Winslow, when he lost control. Wade was a witness to the accident but was not involved or injured.

Multiple 911 calls were received, with the first recorded at 2:41 pm. Poehlein was taken from the scene by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in Jasper

The accident occurred on County Road 800 East about one mile north of the County Road 175 South intersection.

Poehlein was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Responding agencies included Jefferson Township Fire Department, Pike County Sheriff’s Department, Pike County EMS, and Indiana Conservation Officers.

I knew this guy he always told me that he would never get hurt he would never get killed he would never get a scrape that’s why he would never wear a helmet Never Say Never don’t take life for granite let this be a lesson for all of us I said listen but let it be a wake-up call for our legislators and I really send my prayers my hugs and everything to his family his relatives and anybody and everybody that is around him anybody that knew him he was a very happy person always always had a smile on his face if you didn’t have a smile on your face he was the first one to ask you what was wrong with you I really miss you rest high buddy let this be a wake-up call to anybody else that rides ATVs and it’s not just the helmet it’s what you wear to amen
