Greg Eckerle will seek re-election for the District 3 seat on the Greater Jasper School Board.

Eckerle, first elected in 2008, is serving his eighth year on the board.

“I’m proud that all our schools are rated ‘A’ by the Indiana Department of Education,” he said, “and would like to continue giving of my time and experience to help our team provide even better educational opportunities, within our financial ability, for our young people.”

Eckerle, the communications director for the Sisters of St. Benedict, is also an area correspondent for the Evansville Courier & Press, and a board member of the Jasper Park & Recreation Dept. and the Jasper Tennis Patrons.

A lifelong Jasper resident, he is a graduate of Jasper High School and the Indiana University School of Business. He worked for Kimball International for 36 years, including 20 years as employee communication director.

“Our schools will continue to face fiscal challenges and tough issues,” he said. “I would like to use my board experience and business background to assist in making the right choices for our students and taxpayers.”

Eckerle, who has attended school board – specific training every year for the past eight years, was named a Master Board Member through the Indiana School Board Association’s Certification Awards Program in 2015.

He feels his communication background will help him “to ask the right questions to get at the pertinent facts, to listen objectively to various groups to best understand the issues, all in the name of making well-informed decisions for our children’s educational future.”

Eckerle is a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church, ROJAC, Communicators for Women Religious, Knights of Columbus, and a Dubois County Museum volunteer. He is a past board member of the Jasper Chamber of Commerce, Strassenfest Committee, the local American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, and Dubois County Museum. In 2014, he won a first place award from the Catholic Press Association of the United States and Canada for his personality profile of a Benedictine sister, followed by a third place award in 2015. Eckerle also coached girls’ softball, soccer and tennis, and men’s softball for several years.

A descendant of the Eckerle family that emigrated from Pfaffenweiler, Germany, to Jasper in 1847, he is married to Brenda (Seifert), a Jasper High School and Purdue University graduate who works at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center. They have three daughters, all graduates of Jasper High School and the Indiana University Kelley School of Business, and all three are certified public accountants. Shannon was a 2005 JHS valedictorian, and Margot was the 2007 JHS salutatorian.
