Bernice Gerlach, 91, Huntingburg

Bernice Gerlach, 91, of Huntingburg, passed away at 4:55 a.m., on Sunday, June 2, 2019, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

She was born March 11, 1928, in Huntingburg, Indiana, to John A. and Rose (Hess) Lasher. She married Russel E. Gerlach on September 20, 1949, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg. 

Bernice worked as a medical and dental office receptionist. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, V.F.W. Post #2366 Auxiliary, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary and the Daughters of Isabella. She was a Saint Louis Cardinals fan. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russel E. Gerlach, who passed away on February 11, 2012; three siblings, Ardella Carson, Imelda Whitten, and John C. Lasher; and one grandson, Matthew Fink.

She is survived by three children, Kevin (Marge) Gerlach of Crystal Lake, Ill., Martha Gerlach Fink of Huntingburg, and Cheryl (Steve) Rauscher of Huntingburg; two brothers, Richard Lasher of Gulfport, Miss. and Charles Lasher of Lexington, Ky.; six grandchildren, Stephanie Gerlach of Crystal Lake, Ill., Jeremy (Nikki) Gerlach of McHenry, Ill., Jeffrey (Laura) Rauscher of Clarksville, Tenn., Emily Rauscher of College Station, Texas, Nathan Rauscher of Huntingburg, and Mark Fink of Huntingburg; four great-grandchildren, Audrey Gerlach, Jeff Gerlach, Avery Rauscher and Cailyn Rauscher; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.  The funeral Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Ryan Hilderbrand.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2019. A parish rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. and a V.F.W. Auxiliary vigil will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening, at the funeral home.
