James P. Bohnert, 79 of Jasper, passed away at 8:40 a.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at St. Vincent Hospital in Carmel, Indiana.

Jim was born in Jasper, Indiana on January 15, 1938, to Othmar A. and Louise (Gutzweiler) Bohnert.  He married his wife of 57 years, Mary Ann Mehringer on September 15, 1960, in St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Jim and his brother owned and operated the Jasper Locker. He later worked as a warehouse manager for several companies. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Jasper American Legion Post #147. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper and the Jasper Knights of Columbus.

He enjoyed gardening, loved animals and pets, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving is his wife, Mary Ann Bohnert of Jasper; one daughter, Michelle King and husband Ed of Carmel; one son, Anthony James “Tony” Bohnert and wife Mary Lacey of Richmond; two grandchildren, Serena and Zachery King of Carmel; one sister, Mary Lou Smith and husband George of North Manchester, Ind.

Preceding him in death was one brother, John Bohnert.

A Mass of Christian Burial for James P. Bohnert will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 16, 2017, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.  The American Legion Post #147 will conduct military graveside rites. The rosary will be prayed at 8:45 a.m. in church.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time on Monday, October 16, 2017, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, the Holy Family Food Pantry, or the Dubois County Humane Society.
