Employees and family members gathered at Meyer Distributing’s headquarters on Cathy Lane Sunday evening for a special ceremony for National Cancer Survivor Day.

Over the past month, employees of the Jasper-based company have been able to decorate special luminary bags in honor of family members who have survived cancer for the special ceremony. Mixed in among the bags commemorating those who had fought and survived cancer were names of family members who had succumbed to the disease.

Sunday well over 200 bags lined the side of the road in front of the office as CEO and President Mike Braun recognized the many families who had faced cancer and survived as well as those who had fallen. Then, Christian Church of Jasper Lead Minister Darrel Land led a brief prayer before those attending dropped blue glow sticks into each bag.

The bags were left out overnight in tribute.

Meyer Distributing has 700 employees in 31 states and employees across the United States were invited to decorate bags. Some were simple while others more intricate.
