Update — An autopsy Wednesday afternoon revealed that 24-year-old Kelsie McDonald died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Winslow — A Winslow woman was found shot in her home Tuesday night after police were dispatched to a domestic dispute with shots fired at about 11 p.m.

According to authorities, when officers arrived at 104 South Bluff Street in Winslow they entered the residence and found Christopher Morton, 32, in the kitchen holding a handgun in one hand and a beer can in the other. Morton refused to drop the gun and Trooper John Davis deployed his Taser to subdue him. Police then took Morton into custody without further incident.

Officers continued their search and found Kelsie McDonald, 24, in the living room. She had been shot and was unconscious. Officers immediately initiated CPR and emergency medical personnel were notified.

McDonald was taken to Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Morton was arrested for murder and taken to the Pike County Jail where he is currently being held without bond.

Morton and McDonald’s three-year-old daughter was also inside the residence, but she unharmed and was placed with family.

This is an on-going investigation.

Winslow and Petersburg Police Departments along with the Pike County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.

  1. The shooter was a classmate of mine; he was neither a friend nor an adversary as I barely knew him. He was born to “parents” who struggle with drug addiction, “parents” who completely abdicated their responsibilities; the shooter had to raise himself in the darkness of that nefarious drug scene in Winslow, IN. The shooter should have been taken away from his “parents” from birth. The shooter himself looks like he got sucked into that darkness which is the drug scene.

I will understand the sentiments of the prosecutor if he chooses to seek the death penalty, but the shooter was failed by the State Child Protective Services for not taking him away from his addicted and dysfunctional “parents” at birth. I do not think that the shooter should be executed when he was denied an chance at having a life- as he was left abandoned from birth with his addicted “parents.”

Obviously, I condemn his actions, and I extend my condolences to the McDonald family and I will keep Kelsie in my prayers. I hope that he spends the rest of his life in prison, and I hope that he will think and contemplate of what the bloody hell he has done. I hope that he spends the rest of his life in contrition and regret inside prison, and finally I hope that he is able to find God in prison and repent!

For the record, “Christian Schmemann” is not my real name.

  2. Please stop with the BS. This man failed himself, and he has long been removed from the age of not having a choice. While it is true children need an advocate, there is a point in our lives we become aware and responsible for our actions. Hopefully a death sentence has been pursued.
